Has the On Demand revolution and shift to consuming media online affected you positively or negatively as a student? How?
I think it's positively affecting me as a student. With online media, students around the world now have access to news from different areas. Before the internet, not everyone had access to different news outlets. Imagine how people in the early 1900's got their news. They got their news in letters and the newspaper. Back then, it may take days for news to reach people. Now, with internet, an article can be posted online at any moment, and anyone can go and read it within seconds. Consuming media online helps me become aware of what's going on around the world. I'm more connected to what's going on in Asia or Europe. I'm able to learn what's going on in different parts of the world. If I didn't have the ability to look at media online, I would be obvious to what's going on in the outside world. Consuming media online is not necessarily a bad thing. It can help us come to an understanding on how people live and think differently. It can also help us come to an understanding on how different areas are doing. Consuming media online allows to be connected with people around the world, and not just those within the same region. I think consuming media online allows me to be more well-rounded and more aware. The access I have to paper-verisons of the news is very limited, and with the internet, I have access to thousands of different news outlet around the world. The shift to consuming media online, I think, has greatly positively affected those it has reached.
